From South America to the Middle East: AV-over-IP for a Mining Company's SOC

Enhancing security and operational efficiency with cutting-edge video wall technology

A multinational mining corporation with operations across South America and the Middle East. The company required a Security Operations Center (SOC) in the Middle East to monitor and manage mining processes in South America.
Development and implementation of an AV-over-IP solution for a Security Operations Center in the Middle East. The Center was planned as a hub to manage mining processes across several continents.
The SOC was aimed to provide real-time monitoring and communication between distributed mining sites and the centralized SOC, ensuring operational efficiency and security. The project included equipping the control room, meeting spaces, and executive office with a comprehensive AV-over-IP solution for real-time decision-making and monitoring.

Project Goal

The SOC required:
  • Real-time, low-latency video streaming from South American mines.
  • Secure and lossless AV transmission over long distances.
  • Seamless integration of video wall, collaboration tools, and executive decision-making interfaces.

To meet these objectives, a comprehensive AV-over-IP system was deployed, integrating real-time surveillance, communication, and decision-support tools.

Project Background

Polymedia, a multinational system integrator managing the project, designed and implemented an integrated AV-over-IP system, ensuring seamless monitoring and communication between the SOC and remote mining operations. The Control Room is operated by a team of five operators and one supervisor, who oversee real-time surveillance and coordination. A high-resolution video wall provides a comprehensive view of the mining sites, while interactive displays in the Collaboration Room and Executive Office facilitate data sharing and decision-making.

A Cisco-based encrypted AV-over-IP network ensures secure, lossless video transmission from the mining sites to the SOC. The video conferencing system, incorporating AVer solutions and Shure DSP-enabled audio components, enables efficient real-time communication between the SOC and field personnel.

Polywall Enterprise software manages video wall content distribution on all sites, while a custom-built translation module ensures seamless integration between Matrox Maevex IP streaming and Crestron control systems. The scalable infrastructure allows for future expansion to additional mining sites, ensuring continued efficiency and security in remote operations.
  • Video Wall System: 6x2 configuration with 12 x 55" Samsung LCD panels (0.88 mm bezel) for high-resolution surveillance
  • Collaboration Tools: Interactive Flipbox screens in the Collaboration Room and Executive Office for real-time data sharing.
  • AV-over-IP Network: Cisco-based encrypted transmission infrastructure ensuring secure, lossless data transfer.
  • Video Conferencing System: AVer solutions with Shure DSP-enabled microphones and speakers for seamless communication.
  • Control System Integration: Custom-built translation module enabling synchronization between Matrox Maevex H.264 IP streaming and Crestron control systems.
  • Video Wall Management Software: Polywall Enterprise for centralized content control and distribution.
  • AV Streaming Hardware: Matrox Maevex encoders/decoders ensuring real-time IP video transmission

Solution

Technical Characteristics

The Security Operations Center now provides seamless real-time monitoring of mining operations in South America from the Middle East office. The video wall, managed via Polywall video wall management software, enables operators to track multiple data sources simultaneously, while Crestron's control system simplifies infrastructure management.

The mining company has significantly improved its ability to oversee remote sites, coordinate responses, and enhance operational security. The system’s scalability allows for future expansion, aligning with the company's long-term digital strategy. The Security Operations Center is fully operational and continues integrating with other mines and regions.
